April 1, 2009 — P. J. Easter @ 10:25 pm Q: Dear Mr. Man, I don’t think my wife finds me attractive anymore. What can I do to be sexier to her? A: Friends, if I had a sure-fire answer to that, Mr. Man would be in somewhere in the tropics, having a drink out of a coconut half-shell, and grilling anything I could catch. Alas, what I can say is that I understand that it is very easy to get bogged down with the realities of the career, parenthood, and other obligations. It is important that we never forget the glue that holds all of the piecesRead More →

March 24, 2009 — P. J. Easter @ 10:41 pm Q: Dear Mr. Man, I found you at the Ultimate Blog Party. What kind of fun are you bringing to the party? A: Thanks for checking in. I think it is very cool to be one of the select few “dad-bloggers” to be invited to this party comprised of mainly mom-bloggers.  Since this is a unique kind of party, I thought my contribution would be to take it back in time to the 1970’s. Here is a list of things I love from the ’70’s: You didn’t need an excuse to call someone a “Jive Turkey”.Read More →

March 11, 2009 — P. J. Easter @ 12:34 pm Note: This post is out of the norm for the topics usually discussed on this blog. However, I think today’s subject is sufficient food for thought for us all. Please read. I hope it expands your horizons as it has mine. -Mr. Man A friend of mine asked me to provide feedback to an open letter she wrote on Facebook about animal endangerment and neglect . This was a huge step for her because she admits her insecurity about sharing her personal thoughts with others. Initially, I was looking at the letter with an editor’s eye,  but IRead More →

March 9, 2009 — P. J. Easter @ 9:22 pm Mr. Man has a question for R&B singer Chris Brown… HAVE YOU LOST YOUR DAMN MIND?!?!? Since when did Chris Brown become a thug? Is he hanging out with Suge Knight these days? I have to tell you, this story is incredulous to me. I don’t pretend to know much about Chris Brown or Rihanna (I couldn’t name a single song that either of them produced). I remember seeing him on the Grammys a year or two ago. I thought he was a talented performer with Michael Jackson-esque moves and boyish good looks. He was doingRead More →

March 4, 2009 Like many people, I have been keeping up with the news story about the two NFL players, Marquis Cooper of the Oakland Raiders and Corey Smith of the Detroit Lions and two of their friends who have been missing since last week. There was a lone survivor, found atop their 24-foot capsized fishing boat holding on for his life. This young man, Nick Schuyler, was rescued by the Coast Guard on Monday. The search for the remaining three men was suspended at sunset on Tuesday. This morning I was reading parts of Nick’s account. Some question his account due to his condition andRead More →

Q: Dear Mr. Man. My kid plays in a sports league that doesn’t keep score. How do I teach him about winners and losers?   A: My son, JC, plays in a church basketball league (which I have coached for the last three years). The league is an outreach to our local community to expose kids and parents to our faith who may not otherwise come to know the Lord. As a coach in this league, the goal is to love on the kids with the love of Christ and, if we could squeeze in the fundamentals of basketball, then that was the bonus. This year, I was unableRead More →

Image courtesy of: http://www.gimmiethescoop.com Q: Dear Mr. Man. Do you the Stimulus package will help the economy? Signed, Mocha Dad A: Anytime an entity such as the government spends over $1 trillion (including interest and fees), it is bound to help the economy. There are measures that will have an immediate impact (funding for police and fire departments to prevent layoffs, for example). However, the overall package will take too long to provide the stimulus as intended. What about the $400 tax credit being sent to 95% Americans. That equates to $7.69 per week by my math. I’m not an economist, so I may be missing something.Read More →

What can I do to get back our family time? A: There are obvious answers that you are probably already familiar with. Find activities in which to get them involved (such as service projects, participate at the YMCA, or simply going outside to throw around the pigskin). There are many things that you can  (and should) do to pull them away from the video games when they are played in excess. However, this will notRead More →

Filed under: Parenting — P. J. Easter @ 8:28 pm Tags: Life, parenthood   Image courtesy of www.chromasia.com Q: Dear Mr. Man, Why have my children become increasingly disrespectful lately? A: I decided to check out a new Sunday School class today. I am usually serving in another capacity at my church, but now have some free time during the last service. The class is in the middle of a session on parenting. We were watching a video that showed an eleven-year old boy being extremely disrespectful to his mother. Here is an example of the dialogue: “Mom, I’m gonna go to Aaron’s house to play Xbox.” “Sorry Jason. We agreedRead More →

Filed under: Politics,Uncategorized — P. J. Easter @ 8:47 pm Image courtesy of: www.parlourmagazine.com Q: Dear Mr. Man, What is going on with Roland Burris (D), the junior senator from Illinois? A: As most people are aware, Roland Burris is the U.S. Senator from Illinois appointed to replace Barack Obama by the embattled former governor, Rod Blagojevich.  He was initially denied entry to the most exclusive club  on earth, the U.S. Senate. After much embarrassment, the Senate leaders realized that they did not have a leg to stand on to deny Burris a seat and he was sworn in nine days later.  Now he admits that he triedRead More →
